2012 World Championships

Citizens of Rokugan and the Colonies,

We’ve been blessed with the honor of hosting the 2012 World Championship in Barcelona, Spain, from the 12th to the 14th of October.

We’d like to thank AEG for this opportunity and will give our best to create an event that will be written in the Ikoma Histories in golden ink.

A union of the Kotei TOs of Spain has been assembled for the occasion to offer the knowledge and experience of some of the greatest Kotei of all Europe. We’re TO’s, but we’re also players who really love this game and we’ll give the Community what the Community wants in a huge quantity: fun, games, and party!

The Championship will be held at the Auditorium of “Cotxeres de Sants”, an amazing and really big place at the Sants neighborhood, and 5 minutes walking from the train station that communicates directly with the Airport and the main national and international train lines.

Be prepared to live the Legendary Barcelona WC’2012 Experience!

This page will be updated with the information on the events held during what is going to be a glorious event and the European celebration of the 10K card in the history of the game! Check out the event’s website to pre-register!

L5R World Championships – “Scion of the Colonies”

With the forces of the Empire, in the form of an Imperial Legion, marching toward the Second City, the situation within the capital of the Colonies has grown quite grave. Many of the lower classes have fled, taking refuge with family or friends throughout the region. Those of the samurai caste are not inclined toward flight, however; regardless of the nature of their intentions, a samurai does not flee. A samurai acts.

The winner of this tournament may create a new character affiliated with his clan. This character will go to extraordinary measure to support those with whom he agrees during the course of the Imperial siege of the Second City. If the character sides with the attacking Imperial Legion, he will supply vital information to the attackers throughout the siege, assisting them in making key advances toward securing the city as a whole. If the character sides with the samurai of the Second City, however, he will instead be able to exit the city undetected and retrieve desperately needed supplies, returning them to his clan and allies within the city throughout the siege. Either way, his name will be known and his deeds celebrated by those he calls ally.

The winner may supply the name of his personality, as well as what family they belong to and their occupation. Examples might include: a Hida berserker, a Hiruma scout, a Yasuki courtier, and so forth. Please note that certain combinations will be denied outright, such as a Hida shugenja or a Matsu courtier.

  • What: 40/40 EE Constructed
  • Who: All players previously qualified for World Championships and all players who qualified on Friday’s Grinders.
  • When: 9:00 AM

L5R World Championships Top of Clan: “The Minor Clan Alliance”

The Great Clans have taken great strides in repairing the damage done by the Destroyer War, due in large part to the vast amount of resources they have harvested from the Colonies and returned to the Empire. Sadly, there are those without the means to claim such wealth in order to undo the damage the Destroyer Horde inflicted decades ago, and who still suffer the effects of that dark war. Chief among these are the Minor Clans. However, those dark days may be ending. The Minor Clan Alliance, desperate to ensure the continued survival of its constituents, is extending every diplomatic overture to the Great Clans, offering them whatever skills and specialization they have in exchange for a pittance of the wealth yielded by the Colonies. By sending these warriors and ambassadors to serve the Great Clans, the Minor Clans reap the desperately needed benefits that can rebuild their way of life.

Each top of clan winner for the main event at the World Championships may select one ambassador from a Minor Clan to join their faction. The winner may instead choose to forego allying with the Minor Clans and instead create a new scion of his clan, naming a personality to appear in the story at a later date.

  • Ichiro Otani, Sumai Master of the Badger Clan
  • Komori Miyano the Shadow Wing, of the Bat Clan
  • Tonbo Inuyama, Diviner of the Dragonfly Clan
  • Usagi Seki the Untouchable, of the Hare Clan
  • Toku Saiga the Pious, of the Monkey Clan
  • Tsi Hayamizu, Master Smith of the Oriole Clan
  • Morito Inoue, Scourge of the Plains, of the Ox Clan
  • Suzume Shindo, Duelist of the Sparrow Clan
  • Kasuga Aizawa , Entrepreneur of the Tortoise Clan
  • Tochiko, Jagged Tusk of Death, Boar Clan Remnant

L5R “Second Chance” Tournament – “Secrets of the Brotherhood”

The strangeness of Fudoism having been resurrected within the Colonies is a mystery that greatly frustrates the Brotherhood of Shinsei. Much of the lore and historical records of this prohibited sect has been lost to time, and even the greatest sages of the order have only impartial accounts of how Fudo came to be banished from the Brotherhood. In a land where history is so prized, however, it is inevitable that someone will recover the information concerning the Fudo movement.

The winner of this event will determine the clan affiliation of the samurai who discovers an ancestor’s journal. This journal, written after the ancestors joined the Brotherhood, will recount the essential facts of the Fudo movement and the reasons for its separation from the Brotherhood. The winner may further determine if this information is shared with the rest of the Empire, or kept within the clan.

  • What: 40/40 EE Constructed
  • Who: All who wish to participate that did not qualify for the Main Event

Costume Contest: “The Governor’s Mediator”

Despite the turmoil, miscommunication, and conflict between the Imperial Legion and the defenders of the Second City, the pride of the Imperial Governor is not so great that she is unwilling to attempt any diplomatic resolution. One promising member of her court has been selected and will be deployed across the lines of the siege to open lines of communication between the two, and will be the only individual permitted to travel into and out of the Second City during the standoff between the two.

The winner of the costume contest at the World Championships will, through the nature of their costume, create a new personality selected by the Imperial Governor to serve as her emissary to the Imperial Legion Commander responsible.

  • What: Costume Contest. Players who want to participate will have to wear the costume during all Saturday.
At the end of the day, the contenders will show their costumes to a jury formed by the artists invited to the WC 2012.Each member of the jury will chose the 4 best costumes, giving 4/3/2/1 points.
