2012 GenCon Tournament Information Announcements

Hello Samurai of Rokugan,

We have a few announcements of some changes to the game that will be taking effect on August 14th, 2012, in time for GenCon. Without delay, they are as follows.

  • In War of Honor Tournaments, Shiro Chugo and Daigotsu Hotako Experienced 3 are banned. They were found to be detrimental to the War of Honor format. These changes have been reflected on rules.L5R.com.
  • Perplexing Guests has received erratum. It now requires opposition to play it for its Battle action. We found that in combination with other cards, the ability to create presence unopposed was just too powerful.
  • A few changes are being made to the Draft format. These changes have been reflected on rules.L5R.com. No longer does the player who goes first not draw a card on their first turn. Instead, the player who goes second receives an extra Holding which does not straighten before his third turn. This Holding is taken from the top of the Dynasty deck and put directly into play, face-down. The other change made to draft is players must begin their turn at 50 Honor in order to win. The reasons for these changes is we have found that Honor decks are far too fast for other decks to handle in the Draft format and that the player who went second was not being properly compensated.

We hope you will understand why these changes have been made and we are confident these changes will help to improve the tournament and casual environments alike.

Also, information for the big AEG Events at GenCon – the Thursday night RPG Storyline Event, the Big Boardgame Night, and the 10,000th Card Party are all up on the GenCon page at www.l5r.com/2012-gencon, so make sure you go check it out, and sign up for the events!
