IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON THE SEASON
The turmoil and strife within the Colonies has been building since the Age of Exploration occurred last year. With added pressures from the Emerald Champion’s forces laying siege to the Second City, all of the focus has turned towards the Governor and how she will handle the current crisis she and the city face. With all the attention turned away from the rest of the Colonies, forces at work in the former Ivory Kingdoms seize this opportunity to answer grudges both real and imagined, and to further their agendas by claiming even more power for themselves in the process – no matter the cost.
The Colonies now face a conflict that has the potential to become even greater and bloodier than the Clan War of old : brother will fight brother and enemies both old and new will face each other by whatever means they deem appropriate – honorable, and dishonorable, armies or duels. Blood will spill in the Colonies, and, only a few individuals recognize that things within the Colonies are not what they should be, and have begun to seek answers in places long forgotten, all the while racing to keep the Colonies, and even the whole of the Empire, from shattering to pieces. There will be blood – and you, the players – will decide who, and where it will be spilled.
In Kotei seasons past, the winners, and sometimes those who have been the runner up have been given the chance to make choices that will change Rokugan and the Empire. This year, there are a lot more people who will get a say in what happens at the end of this Kotei Season.
Every player who makes the Elimination Rounds will be able to select a CURRENTLY ALIVE NON-UNIQUE PERSONALITY ALIGNED WITH THEIR CLAN (THOSE PLAYING UNALIGNED MAY CHOOSE ANY CURRENTLY ALIVE NON-UNIQUE UNALIGNED PERSONALITY). These personalities are selected BEFORE the Elimination Rounds begin, and once chosen, they cannot be changed. Fortune favors the bold, after all. These selected Personalities are individuals fighting in the Colonies – through duels, ambushes, skirmishes, or whatever means they find appropriate. The Elimination Rounds represent conflicts between the selected Personalities; and the two Personalities featured in the Finals will be a highlighted conflict.
Please remember that, as is customary, Story picks are subject to Story Team approval.
STORY PRIZES
Main Event
The winner of a Kotei Tournament will then choose the fate of the Runner Up personality, which will come at the hands of their own selected Personality…
- They can choose to SPARE the Runner Up personality HONORABLY, recognizing them as an honorable opponent.
- They can choose to SPARE the Runner Up personality DISHONORABLY, shaming them for being weak and not even worth slaying.
- They can take the Runner Up personality HOSTAGE, providing their clan a strong bargaining chip in the future.
- Finally, they can choose to KILL the Runner Up personality.
Without spoiling where this build up to the finale of the Emperor Edition story is going – just keep in mind, that no combination of results is disallowed: the same personality can be chosen multiple times even on the same weekend, and whatever the results, – the Story and Events teams are prepared, and we hope you’re as excited for these stories to unfold as we are.
The Kotei Tournament winner will also be able to choose which side – The Empire, or the Colonies – of the conflict he lends his support to. In 2012, the Jeweled Event series saw personalities appointed to assisting the Jeweled Champions, and advising them on which side they should support – and now the Kotei winners will add weight to this by casting their vote of support – either for the Empire, or the Colonies.
Honor Event
The Honor Event winners will also have a significant amount of influence on this Kotei Season– first of all, they too will cast a vote to support either the Colonies or the Empire, bringing the total votes to 129 in the conflict between the Colonies and Empire.
Secondly, they will choose a court – either the court of the Empress, or the court of the Second City, and an artistic means (see below for the full list):. In the chosen court, a courtier of the Honor winners Clan will tell the story of what happened between the Kotei Winner and the Runner Up, through the chosen artistic means. This has the potential to color the event through the eyes of the chosen clan…especially if they and the Runner Up of the Kotei Tournament are from the same clan…
The artistic means are as follows:
- Dancing (Noh)
- Dancing (Kabuki)
- Music
- Oratory
- Painting
- Poetry
- Puppeteer
- Singing
- Storytelling
End of Kotei Season
But there’s more. The Personality selected the most over the course of the Kotei Season will mark themselves as a strong and brilliant warrior in the Colonies – and be appointed by the Governor as ‘Warlord of the Colonies’, the equivalent of the Shogun in the Empire. This Personality doesn’t even have to make the finals – they simply have to be selected the most over the course of the Kotei season, and survive until the end.
Finally, there are greater implications for the Clans as a whole. At the end of the season, tallies will be made for each Clan to see which other Clan they defeated the most during the Elimination Rounds.– Each Clan will then be given the chance to vote on a number of locations in the Colonies held by that Clan. The location that receives the most votes will change hands! For instance, if the Crab Clan defeated the Crane Clan the most during the Elimination Rounds of the Kotei season,– there will be a list of Crane locations in the Colonies that the Crab Clan players can vote on to claim, the spoils of their constant battles across the Colonies. These locations will be revealed near the end of the Kotei Season, and players will be able to vote for what territory their Clan will claim through the Imperial Assembly shortly following the conclusion of the Kotei Season.
