The Emperor is dead. The powerful Moto Chagatai, great Khan
of the Unicorn clan, looks to the Imperial City with disgust.
The Shogun has refused to take the throne, and instead defends
the rule of an ineffectual Empress. If the Shogun will not take
the throne, then perhaps it is time for a Khan to sit upon it.
Only the valiant Lion stand between the Khan and the throne he
intends to claim. The Khan's Defiance 156-card expansion set
arrives in stores January 2007.

the home of information on Legend of the Five Rings new base
set, Samurai Edition, launching in July of 2007. You'll learn
all about the Race for the Throne, our exciting new storyling
event that will run through 2008, and how it impacts your Clan,
the Kotei, and all the major tournament events in 2007 and 2008.
We at AEG are more excited about L5R in 2007 than ever before.
If you have even half the fun playing as we have planning these
events, it's going to be a year you'll never forget! We know
you'll have questions about Samurai Edition, the Race for the

Hammer & Anvil 2 announcement, or “John’s loss, your gain”
 I don’t know whether to chuckle or cry, but here it is: John
made a mistake.
When calculating the relative value of the Hammer & Anvil 2 and
3 kits, he decided that the *really cool* L5R deck boxes weren’t
enough (did I already say how cool these are?), AND that the
prize promos weren’t enough, AND that the 10 draft packs weren’t
enough (okay, so the draft packs only go in H&A 2, not 3). So he
decided to add five Lotus-legal boosters to each box.
Mind you, this purchasable tournament kit will be available to
stores for $40 or less.
Anyway, this is where the mistake comes in… his instructions,
and his announcement to distributors/retailers, said 5 boosters
per deck box. He just didn’t do the math and come to the
conclusion that we have *10* deck boxes per kit, so we’d be
packing *50* boosters into each H&A 2 kit.
That’s a retail value of $174.50 *before* you take into account
the *really cool* L5R deck boxes (did I mention how cool the
boxes are? – no, really, they’re awesome! I have to cheese a few
for myself…).
But John said that he’s going to stick with it – it’s his error,
but he’s not backing away from his announcement. You know how he
can be, right?
So John’s loss is quite literally your gain. Poke your local
retailer and make sure they don’t miss out on the Hammer & Anvil
kits. It’s fitting that we’re coming up on the holidays – John
should put on a red suit and say “Ho ho ho.”

Most honorable samurai,
I write to you in regards to the most honored event of Winter Court.
The Fortunes smile upon us during this wonderful occasion. My daimyo
has instructed me to answer the questions poised in regards to the
formalities of court.
Format: Winter Court will be held using the gajin technology
of a web forum. A special user name and password will be supplied
to each individual. This user name will provide you with access
to the main courtyard. Additionally, it will allow you access to
your clan's private rooms. Since this is a web forum, there is no
set schedule of play. You may post as often as you like when time
permits. In addition to the web forum, you may also communicate
in the darkened hallways outside of the rooms by sending private
e-mails between samurai. Though should you choose to do this, please
do CC the master officiator (his e-mail to be provided shortly)
or one of his assistants. A third form of communication is provided
for your convenience - teamspeak. It is a voice communication server
allowing you to speak in real time. This is not required by any
means. It simply is provided to assist in large conversations which
require faster response than the web forum. Instructions for the
teamspeak server will follow.
Personalities: Shawn Carman and the story line team have
decided on 68 personalities will be in attendance. Based on the
information you have provided, you will be assigned one of the personalities.
If you want to play your own personality, you may do so. If you
choose to go that path, you will be provided a set number of character
creation points to build a character per the 3rd edition rules.
The personalities in attendance are from the canon CCG. Creating
your own character does not mean he will automatically become part
of the canon storyline. Player-made personalities will not be as
high ranking as those from the CCG, but they may still have a major
impact on events. Please note AEG does reserve the right at its
discretion to use a personality you create as part of the main L5R
storyline.
Timeline: The exact start date may be pushed a little
bit. We had been going for a start date of December 7th. However,
we may start a little bit later than that. As we progress toward
the date, you will get more and more frequent updates from me.
If you have any questions between now and court, do not hesitate
to send me a missive.
