Unique L5R Storyline Tournament: Request for Proposal
Revised 3/12/2004| also available in PDF
formatWelcome to the Legend of the Five Rings Unique Storyline
Tournament Proposal process. This document is designed to help you
submit a proposal to host a tournament for your region, and cover the
requirements necessary to get your request approved.
Unique Storyline Tournaments are some of the most coveted and
rewarding CCG events available.
Note: Storyline tournaments are rare and important. Please understand
that the majority of proposals will be declined. Storyline results will
appear in official fiction, the CCG, or the RPG.
Storyline Tournament Requirements
Minimum Expected Players: 40
Unique Storyline Tournaments must contain no fewer than 40
pre-registered players. If your approved Unique Storyline Tournament has
less than 40 attendees on the day of the event, the tournament will be
placed under review and the storyline may not be made valid. In
addition, we will not be able to award another Unique Storyline
Tournament to you in the future. These events are few and far between
for each region, and we are trying to attract the maximum number of
players to these events.
May not be run during the months of May, June, July, or August
These months are reserved for the Kotei events; Origins, GenCon,
GenCon UK, and the European Championships. You may schedule your event
any time between September 1st and April 30th.
Tournament Organizers May Not Play in the Event
Sorry, with at least 40+ people in your Unique Storyline Tournament,
we require that Tournament Organizers focus their full attention on
hosting the event in order to provide the best experience for their
attendees.
Storyline Tournament Proposal
Alderac Entertainment Group, Inc. requires a complete proposal
outlining every aspect of your tournament. Unique Legend of the Five
Rings™ Storyline Tournaments are the pinnacle of interactive CCG events,
and should be put together with care. We want your event to be a
success for us, for your store, and your players.
Storyline Tournament Proposals should consist of the following
information:
Your Information
Tell us a little bit about yourself. How many events and what sort of
CCG events have you run? How long have you played L5R? Tell us what
makes you a great choice for running a Storyline Tournament.
This is your Tournament Organizer resume section that should show us
that you’re capable and excited to run a Storyline Event. Also include
your name, address, and daytime contact information (telephone # and
email).
Date of Event
You should include a primary and secondary date. There are situations
where we may need an alternate date. Typically, if a storyline
tournament has been run recently in your region, we may want to space
out the time between events. Each region can host a maximum of 2
storyline tournaments a year (not including Kotei, Origins, Gencons, and
the European Championships). We may alternatively, suggest a new date
due to our internal conflicts.
Your proposal must be received at least 90 days before the requested
dates of your event. Because we’re creating a specialized storyline
tournament just for you, we need time for our writers to put something
together to present to your players. It will also give you time to plan
after you get your approval. The earlier we receive your proposal the
more likely we will be able to fit it into our schedule.
Venue
All storyline tournaments must be held in a public area (eg. a
convention hall, store or community center). We cannot approve storyline
tournaments that are held in places like, “my brother's front yard.” For
our records, we need the address of where you want to hold your event.
This should include the following at the minimum:
Name of Store / Convention / Location
Address
Telephone # of venue
Tournament Organizer contact info
Marketing Plan
Every event needs forethought and planning. What are your plans to
market your event? Typically, successful events are marketed with
colorful flyers, a good selection of prizes, and lots of publicity. Let
us know how you plan to attract players in your area and what kind of
marketing you plan to use.
Regions
Below is a list of regions that help us determine and keep track of
where storyline tournaments are held. We need you to find your Region #
and clearly indicate which one you are applying for.
Where to Send Your Proposal
Please send your proposal to:
Storyline Tournament Proposal Dept.
c/o Boyd Kleen
Alderac Entertainment Group
4045 Guasti Road, Suite #212
Ontario, CA 91761
Or you can email it to
bkleen@alderac.com
Tournament Organizers in Europe should send their proposals to:
Rob Bowman at
rbowman@alderac.com
The more organized and prepared your proposal, the better your chance
of being approved for a Unique Storyline Event. We do not accept
proposals via fax. Although not required, a nicely put together package
will go a long way. Good luck!
