Masters of Magic
Releases November 2008

To hear the voices of the kami is to hear eternity.
In the Emerald Empire, a samurai carries a sword and uses it to enact the will of his lord. In roughly one out of every one hundred births, however, there comes a child with that rarest and most enigmatic of gifts: the ability to speak to the kami. Existing at one with the universe, shugenja are able to entreat the substance of the world itself, the elemental spirits known as the kami that comprise all things, and invoke powerful spells that can heal or hinder, create or destroy, grant life or bring terrible, painful death.
Shugenja are more than simple wizards, however. They are the priests and teachers of the Emerald Empire, responsible for the spiritual well-being of its people. They oversee births and funerals, harvests and plantings, war and peace. They are the guiding hand of an Empire in chaos, a bastion of order when it is needed most.
- An examination of the magical and religious viewpoints of the Dragon, Mantis, and Phoenix Clans, complete with new Advantages, Schools, Paths, and Dojo.
- Descriptions of the major festivals celebrated throughout the Emerald Empire.
- Information on the Brotherhood of Shinsei, one of the most influential spiritual groups in the Empire outside of the Great Clans.
- Major temples located in the lands of all Great Clans, loaded with information for use in character backgrounds.
- Updated spell casting mechanics to bring players up to date with the changes of Third Edition Revised, including multi-elemental spells, shugenja and the use of Multiple Schools, and other issues.

Masters of Magic is a rules supplement and its use requires the Legend of the Five Rings Role-Playing Game Third Edition Revised core rule book.

Silken Words Carry Death as Surely as a Katana.
Far from the fields of war, the Great Clans of Rokugan struggle against each other behind the walls of elegant palaces and amidst the theater of great public events. They understand that politics and diplomacy — the arts of the court — are no less important to their ongoing fight for power and influence than the sword and the bow.
But as with war, the subtleties of court play a more prominent strategic role for some Clans than for others. Masters of Court views three such Clans — the elegant Crane, the cunning Scorpion and the relatively new and enigmatic Spider — through the lens of their practice of diplomacy. One chapter is also devoted to the Otomo Family and their relationship to the Great Clans. Masters of Court features:
- New and updated character creation and development mechanics focusing on Social Skills and courtiers in general and the Crane, Scorpion and Spider Clans in particular.
- Descriptions of palaces that serve as a particularly important focal points of political and diplomatic activity.
- New Exclusive Spells for the Soshi Deceiver Advanced School.
- New mechanics for the Otomo, the manipulative arm of the Imperial families.
- Profiles and NPC stats for prominent and otherwise interesting political figures in the Crane, Scorpion and Spider Clans.
Masters of Court is a rules supplement and its use requires the Legend of the Five Rings Role-Playing Game Third Edition core rule book.
Legend of the Five Rings Roleplaying Game, Third EditionReturn to Rokugan, where honor is a force more powerful than steel.
For one thousand years, the Empire of Rokugan has stood as a bastion of nobility, honor, and virtue. These lands are ruled by the samurai, powerful heroes who carry the katana and wakizashi as their badge of rank. Eight Great Clans vie with one another for supremacy over these lands, all under the eye of the mighty Emperor. And to the south, the Shadowlands, the eternal enemy of Rokugan, waits for the next opportunity to disrupt all that these foolish mortals have built. It is a land of intrigue, wonder, and adventure.

Creatures of Rokugan: Third EditionRokugan has never belonged to humans alone. Ages before the dawn of the Empire, great civilizations built by non-human races such as the naga and the ogres marked the land, and although they are gone now, their descendants still dwell upon the earth and in the seas. Since the catastrophic Fall of Fu Leng, oni - the spawn of Jigoku and their terrible offspring - have walked the Shadowlands, warred against the Empire without cease, and even been summoned into Rokugan itself. And of course, a dazzling variety of creatures great and small have always been a part of this world - some fearsome, some benign, some visitors from other Spirit Realms, such as the playful kitsune and the terrifying tsuno.
This is their story, and no understanding of Rokugan would be complete without them. Creatures of Rokugan: Third Edition is a comprehensive catalogue of the remarkable creatures and monsters that populate Rokugan and the Shadowlands, presented to conform to Legend of the Five Rings Roleplaying Game Third Edition rules. You will all manner of creatures, spirits, oni and ghosts here, from the sorcerous ashalan to the bizarre, but once-proud zokujin, and even more:
- Over 200 entries, including some creatures never before described for any edition of Legend of the Five Rings Roleplaying Game.
- Rules for creating naga and nezumi player characters.
- Detailed discussions of naga and nezumi history, society and culture, including their relationships with the Great Clans.
- Rules for creating shapeshifter player characters, updated for Third Edition rules.
- Standardized sets of traits and abilities for various classes of creatures makes them easier to use and remember.
This book is a must-have resource for every Legend of the Five Rings Roleplaying Game campaign, especially those that involve the Shadowlands. Because there are always times - whether it’s a maho-tsukai summoning an oni, or a haunting by a gaki, or a bakeneko having a bit of fun at a human’s expense - when it isn’t just about the samurai. Creatures of Rokugan: Third Edition is a rules supplement and its use requires the Legend of the Five Rings Roleplaying Game Third Edition core rulebook.
